David “The Dragon” Pham is the cousin of poker player Men “The Master” Nguyen and originally worked for his cousin’s cleaning business. Like many of Nguyen's workers, Pham would eventually take poker lessons from him and would later make his own mark on the tournament circuit.
David Pham is nicknamed "The Dragon" because he is always putting heat on his opponents at the poker table. This Vietnamese-American wonder was Card Player's Player of the Year in 2000 and 2007. Pham is only one of three players (Men “The Master” Nguyen (Four) and T.J. Cloutier (Two) with multiple Player of the Year titles.
In 2007, Pham made 11 final tables, boasting four wins, and various other top three finishes good for a $1.8 million dollar year. Pham won a Heads Up tournament at the Mirage, as well as a preliminary event at the final big tournament event of the year, the Five Diamond Poker Classic at the Bellagio. As of 2007, his live tournament winnings exceed $6.2 million.
Earlier in his career, Pham won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2001 for the $2.000 S.H.O.E. event. In 2001 he finished in the money for the $10,000 no limit hold'em main event, where he finished in 44th place. In 2006, Pham won his second WSOP bracelet in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em Shootout event.
