Lights, Camera, Action

Jason Alexander grew up in Newark, New Jersey. Jason always had his eye on the stage. He took his first steps in acting in school plays and with his commanding stage presence, was invariably cast as the lead in the performances. After two years in college at Boston University, he left to act in The Burning and TV movie Senior Trip. Despite being having a short run on Broadway, his big break came when he was cast as the lead in Stephen Sodheim’s musical, Merrily We Roll Along. Jason was awarded a Tony in 1989 for his lead performance in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway.

The Greatest Sitcom Character of All Time

After winning his Tony, Jason moved to Los Angeles to co-star as the neurotic George Costanza, in Seinfeld. The show first aired in July of 1989. It started slowly but soon gained a huge cult following. Jason’s character, George, was loosely based on the show’s co-creator, Larry David and named after Jerry Seinfeld’s college classmate. Many of George’s predicaments were based on David’s past real life experiences. Seinfeld was the top rated show of the 90s winning multiple Emmys. The show ended its impressive run after 9 seasons, in May of 1998. The show is in syndication now and has regularly been in the top 10 list of syndicated programs.
