One of the most intriguing players on the professional poker circuit, Gus Hansen, a.k.a. “The Great Dane,” has made a reputation for himself by defying traditional poker tactics and still winning. Born outside of Copenhagen, Denmark, Hansen now resides in Monaco as well as Las Vegas.

Before turning to professional poker, the mathematically astute Hansen was a world class backgammon player who decided to turn his focus toward poker after finding backgammon competition in the United States to be less challenging than he expected.

Known for playing almost any two cards, Hansen’s style has confounded many of the game’s top pros and earned him celebrity status because of his wild play. The only four-time World Poker Tour (WPT) winner, Hansen was inducted into the WPT Walk of Fame along with Doyle Brunson and James Garner.

Having earned more than $11.2 million over the course of his tournament career, Hansen has left this mark on the international poker scene, winning the inaugural European Poker Masters event in London in 2006, as well as making a European Poker Tour final table in Barcelona. In 2010, Hansen added his first World Series of Poker bracelet to his already impressive resume, which includes three World Poker Tour titles.

Hansen is also known for winning the biggest pot in Game Show Network’s “High Stakes Poker” history, defeating Daniel Negreanu and winning $575,700, as well as, being voted as People’s “Sexiest Poker Player” in their December, 2004 “50 Sexiest Men Alive” issue.
