Philip Collins was raised in the town of Aiken, South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina, where he met his wife Katie and graduated from the Honors College with a Business Administration degree. During a spring break trip with friends to Hilton Head, SC his freshman year, Phil discovered no limit hold’em for the first time and played for nickels and dimes each night. He immediately fell in love with the game and started hosting regular poker nights at USC with his friends.

Unfortunately, things weren’t always easy in poker, and Phil actually lost his entire summer savings the first night he played online poker in 2004. Not to be deterred, he got a part-time job and continued playing and working on his game. By the time he graduated in 2007, he had become a winner online. Phil was placed on a wait list for admission into the USC Law School, a blessing in disguise, as he began playing online poker tournaments daily. Before his acceptance letter arrived in August 2007, Phil had won almost $100,000 playing online poker over the summer and decided to pass on law school to pursue poker.

Phil had his first big win in January 2008 when he won the Full Tilt Poker 1k Monday for over $70,000. With the additional bankroll and confidence, Phil, playing under the screen name ‘USCphildo’ dominated online poker tournaments for the remainder of the year, finishing 4th in CardPlayer Magazine’s Online Player of the Year race. He currently has a total of over $3 million in online tournament winnings.

After a couple years on the live poker tournament circuit, Phil was placed on the World Poker Tour’s Season IX ‘One’s To Watch’ list in 2010. The defining moment in his career came the following summer at the World Series of Poker when Phil finished in 5th place in the 2011 Main Event for $2.2 million. He won his first live event in April 2012 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas on the Heartland Poker Tour for $71,000.

Phil currently resides in Las Vegas and is a team pro for Ultimate Poker.
